Support the Warming Center!

With financial support from our community, we are able to operate this life-saving shelter during dangerous weather conditions.

We do not offer emergency shelter services, but do offer shelter during times of inclement weather.

Need shelter?

When is the Warming Center Open?

Pathways opens for 24 hour shelter services when the "feels like" temperature is 0 degrees or below.

What can I bring there?

Those seeking shelter are limited on what they can bring to Pathways. One small bag or case is allowed at the person's bunk area, but other items will not be allowed or will be stored separately from the shelter area.

Are there rules at the Warming Center?

Yes. Each person that checks into the Warming Center will agree to follow all of our rules or they may be asked to leave. A few important rules to note:

  • Limited personal items are allowed

  • WEAPONS and MEDICATION must be checked in with shelter staff

  • A General Daily Schedule will be followed with no smoking or leaving the shelter between 10pm and 6am

  • Pets are allowed, but may be required to be crated inside the shelter

When the Warming Center at Pathways is operational, it takes a lot of man-power, food, and funding to serve this vulnerable community and their pets. Below are some of the ways you can get involved:

Volunteer on Site at Pathways:

We operate 24 hours a day when open for inclement weather, so we need daytime and overnight volunteers in 2-4 hours shifts. These are the following roles you can volunteer for:

  • Front Door Monitor

  • Day Room/Back Hall Monitor

  • Clothing Closet Help

  • Cleaning Crew

  • Kitchen Help / Meal Serving

  • Floater / General Assistance

Provide Meals at Pathways:

We serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks when open for inclement weather. Families and groups can sign up to prepare a meal, and have the opportunity to serve it is they wish. We regularly serve upwards of 60 people during a meal time.

Donate Needed Items:

There are many items that we continually need during a Warming Center operation, such as:

  • Large cans of coffee

  • Sugar Packets / bags of sugar

  • Jugs of juice for breakfast

  • Shelf-stable snacks or fresh fruit for in between meals

  • Paper plates, cups, and bowls

  • Napkins

  • Plastic spoons and knives

  • Dog and Cat Food

  • Socks, Hats, Gloves

  • Hot Hands Hand Warmers

Donate Vital Funds:

Operating a Warming Center can be very expensive. Funds donated during this time are used to pay staff, pay utilities and building costs at Pathways, and purchase items used when the shelter is open. You an donate online through Paypal (no Paypal account needed!) or call 812-244-1357 to discuss other ways to donate funds.
